The Enlightenment monastery started as a small hut on the Qinghai Plateau about 180 years ago. Gradually, it grows bigger with time. Today, it features a main hall, multiple rows of living quarters and currently house more than 200 ordained monks. And the current facilities are running out of capacity for this growing sangha. Monks are cramped into small spaces for their studies.

To solve this problem, in March 2024, Khenchen Lama initiated the project to build a study hall and additional retreat rooms to accommodate the increase of the monks. In June 2024, we raised about 17 ,000 US dollars to start the first phase of the project to lay the foundation for the Sutra Hall, which was completed in October before the winter set into the Qinghai Plateau. In the second phase, we focus on building the Sutra Hall. 

We started our first fundraising in May and have received about 35 ,000 US dollars, which allowed us to purchase the materials and paid the workers to start building. We hope to raise another 19 ,000 before September to install a roof for protecting the structure from the winter elements. All donations, no matter how small or large, share the same merits. Every little bit helps.
